tee() splits a stream into two branches. It seems straightforward, but the implementation requires buffering: if one branch is read faster than the other, the data must be held somewhere until the slower branch catches up.
In a recent update made to Cloudflare Workers, I made similar kinds of modifications to an internal data pipeline that reduced the number of JavaScript promises created in certain application scenarios by up to 200x.
